Microsoft Azure virtual machine prices in Dublin rise by 17% on 1 February 2027

A spend of €100,000 a year on Microsoft Azure virtual machines in Dublin, all at pay-as-you-go rates, will increase to €117,000 from 1 February 2027.

This figure is an illustration. It assumes every machine is on a series that the increase covers, with no reservations and no Enterprise Agreement price protection.

Microsoft has told customers that prices for specific Azure Virtual Machines and Azure Storage services will rise by 8% to 17% in seven regions from 1 February 2027. North Europe, Microsoft's Dublin region, has the largest increase.

Increase by territory

  • North Europe (Dublin): 17%
  • France Central and France South: 11%
  • West Europe (Amsterdam), Norway East and Norway West: 9%

How Microsoft told customers

This was not a press release or a blog post, the communication went out as an Azure Service Health advisory and by email to affected customers. The advisory will sit in the Azure portal, and the emails go to the contacts on each account. If those contacts are all in IT, finance may not see it.

What is covered

Excluded VM series and storage services (Microsoft Q&A)

Savings plans are not guaranteed to protect you

Microsoft's documentation says: "Regardless of when an active savings plan was purchased, current savings plan pricing is used when applying savings plan benefits."

The dataintelligence view

Microsoft gave about four months' notice. The notice is only useful if it reaches the person who owns the budget. Your Finance team may not be aware of this increase.

What to do now

  • Ask IT to forward the Service Health advisory to finance, and check who receives Microsoft's billing emails.
  • List every VM and storage account in the seven regions, by VM series and storage type.
  • Check whether you have EA price protection, and when it ends.
  • Budget for two possible changes: local currency on 1 January and the regional rise on 1 February.
  • If you plan to buy reservations, ask your Microsoft account team how reservations bought before 1 February will be priced. Then compare buying before and after.
  • Where a workload could run on one of the excluded v7 series, compare the cost. Do not move workloads to v1 or v2.
